Parish Prayer Meeting - HOPE!

25 Jan, Fri, Verbist Hall
Organised by OLPS Youth!

Thanks to the Art Ministry for lending us some of their wonderful artworks and materials. So we were able to do up some lovely bright decor - set to the theme of Hope! YMM sang for us at this event too, while David & Neil helped in the readings and intercessory reflections. Teresa did the powerpoint slides - using the coolest transitions and stuff. Ethan made cool HOPE bookmarks (do we see some hidden talent there?!?) and I was happy to touch the piano again after quite some time! The rest, like Shane, Nicole, Sam (ymm), Tony, Ho Rey, Michael, Clara, Kelly, Roy, also lent their help with the logistics. Tough work once again but we're glad it's over! Well done everyone!

Readings (1 Peter 1:3-9; 13-16)
Blessed be God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into a heritage that can never be spoilt or soiled and never fade away. It is reserved in heaven for you who are being kept safe by God's power through faith until the salvation which has been prepared is revealed at the final point of time. This is a great joy to you, even though for a short time yet you must bear all sorts of trials; so that the worth of your faith, more valuable than gold, which is perishable even if it has been tested by fire, may be proved-to your praise and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed. You have not seen him, yet you love him; and still without seeing him you believe in him and so are already filled with a joy so glorious that it cannot be described; and you are sure of the goal of your faith, that is, the salvation of your souls.
---
Your minds, then, must be sober and ready for action; put all your hope in the grace brought to you by the revelation of Jesus Christ. Do not allow yourselves to be shaped by the passions of your old ignorance, but as obedient children, be yourselves holy in all your activity, after the model of the Holy One who calls us, since scripture says, 'Be holy, for I am holy.'

We look forward to February and the rest of 2008 - with Hope in God!

Prayers for Priestly Vocations by Youth

13 January 2008
Organised by OLPS Youth with the East District Parishes.

There was a small crowd with mostly altarboys - it was a nice time, with a funny survey that showed whether you'd become a priest, or a pope, or a martyr! Thanks to David, the main brain behind the programme.

Fr. Fred in Action: He gave a great sermon! His message was: that we have to listen to God to do His Will - and His Will for us is to be Holy - is to be true to our vocation - as a student, son, daughter, etc etc! Wherever whatever we are, do it well ;) Be Whole!

Jacqueline and Eugene who helped with the slides & opening P&W:

Ushering in 2008 with a bang!

Last year, OLPS Youths got tasked -- for the first time, to organise the New Year Eve Countdown Party, that was to happen after the New Year Eve Mass! So,... we got around to work. ON the day of 31st December, we came early to the Canteen, all empty then... and started on our decorations! We cut crepe paper, used coloured wrapper to change the "lighting" colours, and added a nice disco ball to the centre of the Canteen. Then, it was also down to blowing balloons, and blowing balloons...

It was really time consuming - but worth it when you see a PACKED Canteen to the brim, all waiting to celebrate midnight and the turn of 2008 together.

Blowing balloons in the CAGE (we were flooded by the balloons!) ;)

Ho Rey & Marcus setting up the balloons stash up on the ceiling. They first tried a few times with various formations of an elaborate pulley system that requires just ONE cut of the scissors. But after a few unsuccessful attempts, decided that it was better to just attach the strings somewhere and cut it from both sides! That's our boy scouts for ya!

Food and music went on during the wait for midnight... with David & Remus as the 2 Emcees "from the line-dancing association" -- (we think it was just the hat!). Below is a solo performance by a member of the Filipino Choir. The Youth Music Ministry also performed this night, with a popular old tune --"Don't look back in anger".. quite apt - it's telling us to look forward at the new year and to forget unhappy past! ;) And, they were good!

Finally.... The long awaited COUNTDOWN TO 2008!!!!!

The day ended with dancing, music, and Fr. Greg leading us in prayer together. Very sweet.

It was a great start to the new year!
