Being Salt & Light (Matthew 5:13-16)

I went to Japan over December and celebrated Christmas & New year there! On 31st Dec, while everyone was revelling in Tokyo Roppongi area (the place with lotsa night life), I had the opportunity to attend a midnight mass in a Church in Japan to celebrate New Year (as it was Sat night and also in time for Sunday Mass).

During the Eucharist, I asked God... so what is he going to say for me? Any words for the new year ahead? And it was just like divine inspiration, I just had the words "salt and light" going through my head. I think that was inspiring enough for me, a simple reminder that I need to be a salt and light in my Christian life. And that's how God speaks to me.

And so I want to ask you all to reflect with me on this. Do you also want to be "Salt" and "Light" for others?

Being Salt and Light sounds good and noble, but it's not easy. As Matthew 5 mentions, Salt which loses their saltiness is useless. Are we useful or useless? Are we hiding our light, or shining in the world today around us?
You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Mt 5:13-16

Do pray for our OLPS Youth Ministry, and my wish for 2012 is that we can remain salty and shine with our light of Christ in us.... !

God Bless,
